Fractional differentiation for edge detection
نویسندگان
چکیده
In image processing, edge detection often makes use of integer-order di erentiation operators, especially order 1 used by the gradient and order 2 by the Laplacian. This paper demonstrates how introducing an edge detector based on non-integer (fractional) di erentiation can improve the criterion of thin detection, or detection selectivity in the case of parabolic luminance transitions, and the criterion of immunity to noise, which can be interpreted in term of robustness to noise in general. ? 2003 Elsevier B.V. Edge detection based on the newton interpolation's fractional differentiation
In this paper, according to the development of the fractional differentiation and its applications in the modern signal processing, we improve the numerical calculation of fractional differentiation by Newton interpolation equation, and propose a new mask, the Newton Interpolation’s Fractional Differentiation (NIFD). Then, we apply this new mask to image edge detection and can obtain the better...
متن کاملUsing fractional differentiation in astronomy
In a recent paper, published at arXiv:0910.2381, we started a discussion on the new possibilities arising from the use of fractional differential calculus in image processing. We have seen that the fractional calculation is able to enhance the quality of images, with interesting possibilities in edge detection and image restoration. Here, we want to discuss more deeply its role as a tool for th...
متن کاملFractional differentiation based image processing
There are many resources useful for processing images, most of them freely available and quite friendly to use. In spite of this abundance of tools, a study of the processing methods is still worthy of efforts. Here, we want to discuss the new possibilities arising from the use of fractional differential calculus. This calculus evolved in the research field of pure mathematics until 1920, when ...
متن کاملFractional Order Differentiator Based Filter For Edge Detection of Low Contrast Underwater Images
Underwater images usually suffer from degraded visibility. Light attenuates and scatters in water resulting in low contrast and haziness in the scenes. Therefore, the main problems to be dealt with in underwater environment are poor contrast, non-uniform lighting, haziness and blurring. Hence, in order to study underwater images, it becomes utmost important to extract the invisible or unclear e...
متن کاملDistinguishing number and distinguishing index of natural and fractional powers of graphs
The distinguishing number (resp. index) $D(G)$ ($D'(G)$) of a graph $G$ is the least integer $d$ such that $G$ has an vertex labeling (resp. edge labeling) with $d$ labels that is preserved only by a trivial automorphism. For any $n in mathbb{N}$, the $n$-subdivision of $G$ is a simple graph $G^{frac{1}{n}}$ which is constructed by replacing each edge of $G$ with a path of length $n$...
